This lovely tranquil place near Wareham had its unpromising origins as a clay pit, but is now a beauty spot centred on the pool itself, which can look green, blue or turquoise depending on the weather. Surrounded by 25 acres of unspoilt heathland and woodland, this SSSI is home to a wide range of animals, birds and insects. A series of paths has been laid out to cater both for the energetic rambler, or the sunny afternoon stroller.
Children will enjoy hunting for the fairy doors and model squirrels hidden about the landscape. You can also visit the Museum, the Wareham Bears, and finish with a coffee and cake, light lunch, ice cream or cream tea at the Tea Rooms.
Open at 9.00am daily until 30th November; tearoom, museum, bears and gift shop from 10am. Adults £7.50, O.A.P £6.50, under-16s free. Dogs welcome – but no swimming please!
