A charming seaside town set on the scenic Isle of Purbeck, Swanage boasts both nearby natural beauty and lots of things to do. The intricate ironwork of the restored Victorian pier is a thing of beauty and well worth just £1 to visit, while the Durlston Country Park has over 300 acres of spectacular coastal landscape, a castle, nature trails and the famous stone globe.
Adventure sports fans are well catered-for with rock-climbing, mountain-biking, coasteering, kayaking, paddle-boarding, diving, fishing and sailing all on offer locally. Feasting and foraging, bushcraft and more for the budding explorer too.
Those wishing for gentler pursuits can stroll along the endless golden sands of the shell beach at Studland, or venture onto Brownsea Island with its peaceful heath and woodland setting, home to red squirrels and a host of birds. Of course, there are lots of places to eat and drink in the town, as well as individual shops and galleries to browse. And don’t forget the Swanage Steam Railway for a nostalgic trip back in time.
